Carao started long before it had a name.

Our grandmother taught our mom, our aunts, and us about style by example. She chose simple yet elevated pieces she could wear for years, pieces that became part of everyday life and changed with her over time. She followed trends when they made sense, but she always came back to what felt like her. The jewelry we remember her wearing when we were little is still with her today. The rest is now worn by our mom, our aunts, and us.

Our mom is an artist and anthropologist, and our dad is an engineer, so details always mattered in our house. They were careful about what came into our home and our wardrobes, and taught us to be curious, buy smart, repeat clothes, and pay attention to how things were made, what they were made of, who made them, and how long they could last.

From them, we learned to care about materials, craftsmanship, integrity, and the details behind the pieces we make and choose.

Those instincts became Carao: a jewelry brand bringing simple yet elevated pieces to women who know exactly how to wear them, pieces designed to be worn often, kept for years, and eventually passed on.

Hi! We’re Graci and Dani, a lawyer and a designer who took a leap of faith several years ago and joined forces to create Carao. We also happen to be sisters.

Back then, Carao started in our parents’ garage in San José, simply from wanting to experiment. Today, it helps keep our jewelry-making traditions alive while providing fair and dignified work for expert jewelers in Costa Rica and Latin America.

Even though Carao has grown, it’s still very much us behind the brand. We design the pieces, work on the website, pack orders, answer your messages, go to fairs, and touch pretty much every part of the brand. Welcome to our universe! We hope you love it as much as we do.
